I auditioned for The Theatre Lab which is a newer part of The Firehouse Theatre here in Richmond, Va. There have three month sessions where you work with the other 14 people cast to create original pieces of theatre while learning along the way. I was excited, yet apprehensive, to audition because I had not auditioned for anything since about two years ago. So my “acting self-esteem” was about a -3 on a scale of 1-10.

For the audition I had to memorize and recite a monologue and was also interviewed.

I was so nervous going into the audition, I could actually see my hand shaking.

BUT…I did it! I got up there and performed my monologue. And *gasp* didn’t die. I did totally blank for a few seconds, but I recovered and was able to finish.

I ended up getting a callback which was super exciting. And the callback itself was SOOOOOO much fun.

I felt like I was holding back, though. Which I probably was.

I didn’t get cast in the summer session. But I was just thinking and…I am really proud of myself for going through with everything. For not having performed in over two years, I did pretty okay. Once I become more comfortable on the stage I think I will really do a lot better. And the fact that I got a callback shows my potential, I think.

Something the creator of The Theatre Lab pointed out is that (and this was his reason for creating TTL) there are not many roles for our age range/type. So it’s hard to find auditions in the first place. BUT I have a few other auditions in Richmond I am going to go to between now and Christmas which I am excited about. There is actually a lot of great talent in Richmond (and two local actors just booked BROADWAY SHOWS) which creates competition. But everyone is so nice and helpful, so I know that if I set my heart to it, I can be cast in the future. I look forward to it. :)

“Don’t let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game”. It’s true.

I’ve been re-watching Season 5 of Grey’s Anatomy and I have a few thoughts:

1- I MISS IZZY AND GEORGE. The show was just so passionate with them.

2. Karev is actually like-able in this season

3. Yup. I have hated Hunt since he entered Seattle Grace.

4. Derek is way too much of a pushover when it comes to Meredith in this season

5. Remember when Callie was just figuring out she liked girls and her and Erica we’re a hot mess?

6. FUCK YOU, ERICA HAHN

7. Lexi is adorable because she still has not realized how talented is—and isn’t well respected yet.

8. Sloan is like-able in this season, too. I go back and forth between hating and liking him throughout the series. But he’s sensitive and supportive in Season 5.

9. Bailey. You can never NOT like Bailey.

10. Shonda Rhimes is a literal genius. GENIUS. I feel like I know these people personally and… …I cry. A lot.

EPIPHANY.

I’ve been trying to write a musical. (Emphasis on the word *trying*) All I had was one really big, broad idea and absolutely nothing was coming together. So I decided to give up and not just write for the sake of writing, but rather wait for something to inspire or capture me and write about that. Well….that thing has come to me.
